The demands of the opening titles of a film

In the 21st century the opening titles of a film need to become more and more engaging to the audience, this is because people can become more easily distracted from the movies they watch, due to technology and films becoming more accessible over time. Now, instead of immersing themselves in the movie by going to the theatre, people can conveniently download the movie onto their TV's at home. This means, however, that the movie needs to compete with devices like phones, laptops and tablets,
therefore the onus to keep people interested in the movie is now on the movie itself instead of the audience.

the demands of the opening titles are:
  • To immerse the viewer
  • To set the scene for the film (setting/ time period)
  • To introduce the plot/ main characters
  • To build suspense/ keep the viewers watching
  • To show well known actors to gain the audiences interest.
I think this will help me with my production because I know what needs to be done to create an effective opening title sequence.
